Mariana, from Santiago and Cuba 

SANTIAGO DE CUBA.– The quintessential woman of the Maceo-Grajales lineage, born in the Hero City on July 12, 1815, was honored by her people at the funerary monument that houses her remains in the Santa Ifigenia Heritage Cemetery.
A floral offering on behalf of the Cuban people was placed at the historic site, while her legacy and prominent position as Mother of the Nation were commemorated. "Her enduring example serves as a guiding light today for defending the achievements of the Revolution, to which she gave her children and dedicated her life," said Elena Castillo Rodríguez, general secretary of the Federation of Cuban Women in the province of Santiago de Cuba.
Before her tomb, permanently guarded by an honor guard, representatives from political and mass organizations, as well as residents of Santiago de Cuba, laid loose flowers as a tribute to this paradigm of a woman of independence who bequeathed to the inhabitants of this land her concept of duty, honor, and discipline.
A mother of 14, Mariana Grajales dedicated her family to the cause of independence, with love for the homeland and social justice as her primary motivations. She exemplified rebellion, resistance, and female empowerment.
