"In the spirit of the firm political will to jointly build the Cuba-China Community of Shared Future, we received with profound gratitude 15,000 tons of rice sent by the people, Party, and Government of China," wrote Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Party and President of the Republic, on his Twitter account.
"This important shipment," Díaz-Canel added, "which arrived Saturday at the Port of Havana, marks the beginning of a new donation totaling 60,000 tons, which will gradually arrive in our homeland."
The president, who acknowledged the donation as a "noble gesture of solidarity," explained that it "will reach millions of consumers throughout all the provinces and the special municipality of Isla de la Juventud, as well as our health and education institutions."
"The deep bonds of friendship and cooperation that unite us are strengthened in crucial moments," he concluded.
