Pinar del Río – Examples abound. Just days before this city hosts the main events commemorating the 73rd anniversary of the attacks on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes barracks, various sectors are working to improve parks, squares, and other public spaces.
Among the projects underway are the restoration of the monument to the Saíz Montes de Oca brothers, located at the entrance to the city of Pinar del Río, and the José Jacinto Milanés Theater, where the artistic gala for July 26th will take place; but many more sites are being renovated.
Eumelín González Sánchez, the province's governor, explained to Granma that the city's main parks are being revitalized, and solar-powered lights are being installed to ensure illumination even during power outages.
A similar process is underway in the square that will host the national commemoration.

The Governor of Pinar del Río announced a comprehensive program to improve public lighting, including the installation of photovoltaic-powered lights, largely funded by the territorial contribution for local development, known as "the 1%."
This is one of the most impactful actions, considering that Hurricane Ian destroyed most of our streetlights, he said, adding that the main parks in the municipal capitals would also be included in this initiative.
José Manuel Fernández Paulín, provincial director of Cultural Heritage, commented that along Martí Street, the city's main thoroughfare, work is underway ranging from the revitalization of the central promenade and the restoration of the sculptures placed there for the 150th anniversary of the city of Pinar del Río (2017), to the restoration of some emblematic buildings such as the Museum of Natural Sciences and the Provincial History Museum.
The operating room at Pepe Portilla Pediatric Hospital is another space that will showcase a renovated look as part of the celebrations commemorating the Moncada attack, and a new home for children without parental care will also open its doors.
Meanwhile, González Sánchez commented that construction work continues on more than a dozen wards at the Abel Santamaría Cuadrado General Teaching Hospital, carried out by state and non-state entities that have allocated a percentage of their profits to this project of great humanitarian value.
But the day of the 26th also constitutes a town event, in which many entities paint and condition their facades and hundreds of people go out of their way every day to support the harvesting, sanitation and food production activities in all the organic gardens in the city.
