The First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, visited Cuban industrial entities in Havana this Wednesday. These entities are dedicated to energy and construction solutions that contribute to the country's sustainable development and defense.
This visit is part of the exchanges the president frequently holds with workers' collectives.
Accompanied by Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz; the Minister of the Revolutionary Armed Forces, Army Corps General Álvaro López Miera—both members of the Political Bureau—as well as several members of the Council of Ministers, the president toured a workshop dedicated to the production of expanded polystyrene panels with electro-welded mesh: a modern construction system consisting of prefabricated panels, used primarily for building walls.
This is an economical, fast, and highly efficient solution for housing construction, thanks to the considerable savings in cement (between 20% and 30%) and steel (over 50%).
As explained, they are working on two types of very comfortable houses, whose foundations have already been completed in Havana, as well as in the central and eastern regions of the country.
Although the primary application of this technology is in housing construction, it also yields excellent results in cladding both the well-known "container homes" and refrigerated containers. The Head of State was able to observe these projects firsthand.
The day also included a visit to a solar panel assembly line, where more than 3,200 panels have been manufactured so far this year.
This achievement, in addition to its commercialization, has allowed the installation of photovoltaic systems to begin in the entity itself, in order to become independent of the National Electric System and not stop production in the face of the energy crisis that the country faces, a consequence of the tightening of the blockade by the United States government and the oil embargo, which exceeds six months.
It was announced that, with the arrival of new inverters and batteries for the photovoltaic sector, the solar panel factory will be able to establish a double-shift work system, ensuring a production of 120 panels per day.
The Cuban President highlighted these modern, efficient, and functional solutions and called for the implementation of these practices in other regions and entities across the country.
