History added up to 67 Januaries, and once again, the crowd seemed to be listening to Fidel when, on that sixth day of the year, the young rebel leader addressed the people of Santa Clara during a stop on the Freedom Caravan's journey.
Hermes Germán Aguilera Pérez, first secretary of the Provincial Committee of the UJC in the territory, evoked the legacy of the heroes who restored our sovereignty, while proclaiming unrestricted solidarity with the sister Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, currently under siege by the United States.
Also yesterday, with marked patriotic pride for the 67 years that have passed since the Caravan of Freedom, led by Fidel, arrived in Sancti Spíritus, and at the same time with visible indignation at the cowardly military aggression of the United States against Venezuela, thousands of Sancti Spíritus residents gathered once again in their central and emblematic Serafín Sánchez Valdivia Park.
The jubilation and joy with which the inhabitants of the colonial town mark this day year after year has now given way to a unanimous popular outcry condemning the attack against the sister Bolivarian nation and the kidnapping of its legitimate president, Nicolás Maduro, along with his wife Cilia Flores, as well as reaffirming the tribute of the entire nation to the 32 combatants of the Revolutionary Armed Forces and the Ministry of the Interior who died heroically defending the sovereignty of the land of Bolívar and Chávez.
The commemoration of the caravan's passage through Cienfuegos also had nuances of commitment and denunciation.
Anisley Cordero González, first secretary of the Provincial Committee of the UJC, said: "From this stage, the youth of Cienfuegos raise their voices to denounce to the world the cowardly kidnapping of President Nicolás Maduro and his partner Cilia Flores. This act of political piracy is a blow from imperialism, which does not forgive the dignity of peoples who decide to be free."
And in praising the attitude of the 32 Cuban martyrs who fell on Venezuelan soil, she assured: "We will not take a single step back."
