Today, for Cuba, there is no other path than the one it has always followed
U.S. President Donald Trump has resorted to inflammatory rhetoric, asserting that "going in and destroying" is probably the only option left on the table.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio joined in this discourse, issuing a political ultimatum to Havana: either the Cuban leadership changes its system and submits to what he calls a "real economy," or it will face a deepening of the blockade and unprecedented pressure on the island.
Few could have imagined such a violent and disconcerting turn of events on the international stage, even knowing the background of the current president.
However, his administration has exceeded all legal and rational limits. By kidnapping presidents, threatening sovereign nations, bombing and invading, Washington has blown up the foundations of international relations.
It is clear that, in the face of the deep internal crisis in their own country, those who use arrogance and ambition as their compass have little room for maneuver.
We are witnessing the desperate actions of a collapsing empire.
By opening up various fronts of conflict, they seek to instill fear in order to regain a hegemonic control that does not belong to them, putting the entire world on the brink of apocalypse.
The most revealing thing is that they no longer bother to keep up appearances. Those who previously denied the existence of the blockade, calling it a "justification of the revolutionary government," today openly proclaim their intention to suffocate the Cuban people and tighten the economic noose even further.
They no longer care about international opinion; they have abandoned the rhetoric of "democracy" and "human rights" to show their most predatory face.
In a similar era, when Ronald Reagan threatened to wipe us off the face of the earth, Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz stated with crystal clarity: "I am absolutely convinced that the only way to deal with this situation is to maintain a firm position and grow stronger."
Today, for Cuba, there is no other path than the one we have always taken: to confront, resist, and ultimately defeat the enemy on any terrain they impose on us.
