What else can be done? What else can be undertaken? These are among the most useful questions that can be asked today from Cuba. That’s right, because the answers would always lead in the opposite direction of paralysis.
This philosophy shapes the work of places like the Granma Military-Industrial Company —located in the capital’s Regla municipality— which was visited on Monday morning by Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic.
Despite the difficult times we are facing, the entity—dedicated to the manufacture, repair, modernization, and marketing of naval assets, as well as other products for the national economy—has not ceased production on multiple fronts that positively impact Cuba.

The dignitary was able to confirm this during a visit that was also attended by the Minister of the Revolutionary Armed Forces (FARs), Army Corps General Álvaro López Miera; and Army Corps General and Minister of the Interior, Lázaro Alberto Álvarez Casas; both members of the Political Bureau.
Early in the tour, the leaders heard from the company’s director, Fleet Captain Lázaro Raúl Hernández Gómez, about the economic impact of this entity, which comprises 19 production units with 686 workers and met its sales plan in 2025.
The Granma Military-Industrial Company is venturing —as its Director explained— into the manufacture of floating docks; the modernization of fishing vessels; programs for the manufacture of household goods; and production for transportation and water resources, among other areas of public welfare.
Once the visit concluded, Fleet Captain Lázaro Raúl Hernández Gómez spoke with the press team of the Presidency of the Republic, to whom he explained that the Company’s corporate purpose is “the maintenance, restoration, and guarantee of the combat readiness of the Revolutionary Armed Forces (FAR) and the Navy.” The executive added that the facility’s capabilities are also dedicated to meeting the needs of the economy.
When mentioning the “various areas” in which the company operates, he referred to the construction of water tankers and fuel tanks, as well as the repair of electric motors—ranging from 5 to 500 kW.
Regarding the latter, Lázaro Raúl Hernández highlighted “the repair of electric motors for Chinese locomotives, which used to be repaired abroad and are now repaired within our company.”
After mentioning the manufacture of kitchenware, the executive reported that, in line with the country’s needs, they are currently engaged in producing alternative stoves—fueled by coal, sawdust, or firewood—which are being distributed throughout the island.
Other products, he said, are manufactured “depending on the needs” that arise, in sectors such as tourism, given that the company has units specializing in supplies for restaurants, or in services such as refrigeration. And work is also being done on a front as important as that of vessels: several of them have been salvaged thanks to the company and are now in full use.
It has been a tradition for the country’s leadership to visit military-industrial enterprises. This custom is no coincidence: these spaces are, par excellence, centers of research and innovation; and they uphold a philosophy of intelligent resilience whose value is growing, especially now, in the face of a society’s urgent demand for excellence.
