There are concepts whose profound human, social and even sentimental dimension means that no definition of their essence -no matter how scientific and profound it may be- is entirely complete without the experiences and verifications of the unimaginable scope that, in the daily evolution, in the tireless work, and in the perennial conquest of history, the peoples can give it.There are certainties that are made by force of experience and confidence, of will and decision. Certainties that are built by what, for us, is a matter of principles and loyalty, and for others, who ignore the strength of virtue, it is only an incomprehensible foolishness that, nevertheless, keeps us standing above the superficial and the uncertain.Of course, although moral and ethical inheritances make it eventually become a spontaneous process, it is not so from its beginnings. People have to learn, make mistakes, overcome their fears and ascend in the annals of history, to understand that there are possessions too valuable to be risked, and that certain lessons must be tattooed in the mind and in the soul in the same way, so that if one falters, the other can come to its aid and restore lost confidence. On the way to these lessons, the walls that serve as an impassable parapet to what is truly important are erected. The people, little by little, discard the litter of uncertainty and ambivalences, when the proofs of the certainty of the path are irrefutable, and when the paths that follow one after another, full of false charms, strengthen our feet on the path that is not always flowery and flattering; but, definitely, it takes our steps towards a safe place.Every day our determination is put to the test, our strength is subjected to the scrutiny of a rapacious opportunism, and our principles and human and moral values, pass through the fine sieve of unfounded mistrust, to hurt and replace what is right with what is easy; for what does not claim the sacrifice that magnifies and forms, forgetting that, in honor to the truth, "he who carries much inside needs little outside."There are those who prefer to think that what lacerates us and consumes our most human essences is a simple delirium of persecution, and not a machinery set up to build mere automatons, incapable of understanding the way, not even subtle, in which their conscience is manipulated.Only the truths learned in the course of history, the certainties embraced then by objective transitivity, alert, prepare, heal the soul of the people. It seems an easily understandable logic, but it has taken a lot of sacrifice, a lot of example, a lot of will and the exceptionality of unforgettable leaderships to understand it. In all this, there is a common thread, one that, by patriotic and ethical tradition, has never been broken, not even in the hardest moments. Unity, that thread is called unity.United we learned to understand that defeats are part of the road to triumph, that mistakes are necessary to gain wisdom, to develop intelligence and common sense.United we learned to share in equal measure the joy and the pain, to extend our arm so that those who have fallen can get up.United we made of Cuba what it is, a universal reference of all that, of this apparently battered and confused humanity, still deserves to be saved.DIVIDING US IS THE BET TO LEAVE US DEFENSELESSThis is how predators hunt their prey. They usually keep them away from the herd, isolate them in order to make use of them; only in this way is the hunt successful. When this act is not consummated, when the herd remains together and alert, not even the best equipped predator is able to fulfill its objective; and, with the frustration of a force that overcomes it, it has no choice but to move away.It is a law of the animal kingdom, but one that we often bring up when the ancient wisdom of Mother Nature reminds us of certain realities that we sometimes forget. Two lessons can be drawn from the simple recreation of this scene. The first is very clear: "divide and conquer;" but the second, which is precisely the one we tend to overlook, is that the predator does not rest. It crouches and waits patiently; for it, a mistake by the stalked group is enough. We have seen so much predation in this world, and we know the stalker so well, that we can vouch for the veracity of this natural principle as no one else can.He who once saw us as ripe fruit, who stood on our backs as one who proudly treads on his spoils of war and set out to plunder us to the breath, he whom we drove from this beloved land has never been satisfied, and he launches his claws from the most unsuspected places, in the hope that one of them will strike us. It does not matter if to do so he has to block us, literally, even the oxygen. However, his failure corrodes him, his frustration makes him even more dangerous; so he bets on what he knows would be his only chance: to make us deny what we have lived, to separate us from our identity, to feed us the individualism that corrodes the foundations of the strength that, until today, has kept us unscathed. He wants us to look at each other without a spirit of brotherhood, to blame and confront each other. He wants us to make the law of the strongest prevail, to bet on what you are worth as much as you have, to renounce otherness. He hopes that the storms of disbelief and distrust will bring down more walls than hurricanes, and that it will not be an earthquake, but the loss of values that will open the ground for us. Coldly calculated is his plan.YOU TAKE US FOR NAÏVE, HOW NAÏVE YOU ARE!They have discovered nothing new. A long time ago an enlightened thought, always ahead of the historical moment, declassified his intentions. He told us first, that no enemy had the capacity to destroy our work, that only we ourselves would be capable of such barbarism. We? How could that be possible? This people would never betray what they built with their own hands. As so many other times, our Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz -teacher of all those lessons described in this page- placed before our eyes a truth that, until then, we had not contemplated; or at least not from his irrefutable logic, from his unique perspective of Cuba, its people and its reality. And that alert was timely as few others, that unique way in which he touched the heartstrings of revolutionaries from one end of this Island to the other, and those words marked a before, an after and a forever, because no patriot could bear the idea, the slightest possibility of playing the game of those who gloat over everything that harms us.That is why we could not miss today, among the most sincere and profound evocations of his existence, what was his flag, his most cherished ideology, always latent object of his actions, supreme goal of all his actions: the unity of this people. But there in eternity be assured, man homeland, man people, that this prop has withstood the onslaught of stormy times and remains standing, as an irreplaceable safeguard of our peace and our lineage. As long as the hand of some continues to be extended to others, as long as we unselfishly share what we have, as long as the embrace of solidarity alleviates the pain and the willingness to found and build accompanies us, there will be no hope that goes out, no sun that stops shining no matter how intense the storm, no negotiated or lost homeland, because there is not enough morale to fight for it.
