An increase in the incidence rates of suspected cases of Oropouche marks the trend of the epidemiological situation in the country, informed to the press Dr. Francisco Durán García, national director of Epidemiology of the Ministry of Public Health (Minsap).About the disease, transmitted by the mosquito Culex quinquefasciatus, and the culicoides midge, he said that its transmission is maintained in 174 Health areas -two more than the previous week-, in 99 municipalities of the 15 provinces. He explained that this increase in the incidences by Oropouche is mainly reflected in the provinces of Pinar del Río, Artemisa, La Habana, Sancti Spíritus and the special municipality Isle of Youth. As for dengue, Durán García pointed out that suspected cases have been detected in 48 health areas in 41 municipalities. The Doctor insisted that, in case of any symptomatology such as headaches, joint pains, vomiting, diarrhea and fever, it is necessary to go to the doctor, as it is necessary to make a proper diagnosis, since there is co-circulation of several arboviruses. Specifically, dengue evolves into serious clinical pictures that can be life-threatening.He also pointed out the importance of environmental sanitation and the elimination of mosquito breeding sites as an effective way to prevent the proliferation of these vectors. He stated that a strict epidemiological surveillance is maintained due to the presence of Zika, chikungunya and Mayaro fever in the Latin American and Caribbean region, although none of these arboviruses are currently present in the country.
