SIF to Help Deliver Vital Medical Care and Resources to Earthquake Survivors

ZURICH, Jan. 25 /PRNewswire/ — The Starr International Foundation (SIF) today announced $1 million in grants to two humanitarian organizations providing critical relief in Haiti. The grants to Partners in Health and the International Rescue Committee support efforts to deliver much-needed medical care, clean water and sanitation to survivors of the devastating earthquake.

SIF made a $750,000 grant to Partners in Health (PIH) to help the organization deliver medical care to communities devastated by the earthquake.  With more than 100 doctors, 600 nurses and 4,000 employees on the ground in Haiti working from 12 existing PIH hospitals which were largely unaffected by the recent earthquake, PIH was among the first emergency medical responders to provide relief services. PIH is currently working to strengthen available medical care in Port-au-Prince and to increase its capacity to treat more serious cases at PIH facilities outside the city.  SIF also donated $250,000 to the International Rescue Committee (IRC) to support efforts to assist overwhelmed local aid groups in providing medical care, clean water, and sanitation to earthquake survivors. Visit www.theirc.org for more information.
