Guyanese National Gets 32 Years In Jail

News Americas, NEW YORK, NY, Thurs. Jan. 5, 2012: A 39-year-old Guyanese man will spend the next 32 years in jail for rape, conspiracy and perjury.

Jerry Ramrattan was sentenced Wednesday by Supreme Court Judge, Richard Buchter, who called him “diabolical conniver and sinister manipulator” who framed his ex-girlfriend for robbery after she accused him of rape.

“The defendant is an architect of his own ruin,” Buchter said. “He deserves no mercy from me and he won’t get any.”
Ramrattan had been accused of raping Seemona Sumasar in 2009 but instead he exacted his revenge, fooling lawmakers into believing she was a robber.

Sumasar lost her restaurant business, her home went into foreclosure and her 12-year-old daughter was forced to move in with relatives while she spent seven months in a Long Island lockup.

Ramrattan faces deportation to his native land after the jail time is completed.
