One hundred years after his birth, Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz continues to be a beacon of anti-colonial thought, resistance, and the struggle for a more just world. His legacy challenges us in the present and illuminates the paths of the future.

Precisely to commemorate the centennial, the Fidel Castro Ruz Center, with Cuban academic and cultural institutions, convened the 1st International Colloquium "Fidel: Legacy and Future," to be held at the Havana Convention Center from August 10 to 13, 2026.

Historians, political scientists, researchers, social leaders, and friends of the Cuban Revolution will be able to participate in this space for critical and pluralistic debate on the contributions of the Commander-in-Chief to contemporary thought.

Sissi Abay Díaz, deputy director of the Center, stated at a press conference that the event aims to analyze the actions of the historical leader in the political, social, internationalist, and humanist dimensions; discuss his influence on the geopolitics of the 20th and 21st centuries; reflect on the relevance of his ideas in the struggle against imperialism, inequality, climate change, and for peace and the sovereignty of peoples; as well as explore the reception and projection of his legacy in culture.

This event will be a forum where historical memory engages in dialogue with contemporary challenges and the aspirations of new generations. "Among the forms of participation are keynote addresses, thematic roundtables, panels, book and documentary presentations, and related cultural projects," Abay Díaz added.

The debates and conclusions will be compiled into a publication so that the ideas generated at this event can fuel the struggle for the "better future" to which Fidel dedicated his life.
