The work of legal professionals is key to the functioning of the socialist state, the defense of legality, and the protection of national sovereignty against external aggression.
This is how Alexis Ginarte Gato, president of the National Union of Jurists of Cuba (UNJC, in Spanish), summarized the importance of legal professionals at an event commemorating Jurist's Day and convening the organization's 10th Congress.
At the ceremony, presided over by Political Bureau members Salvador Valdés Mesa, Vice President of the Republic, and Dr. Roberto Morales Ojeda, Secretary of Organization of the Central Committee of the Party, and with the special presence of Rebel Army Commander José Ramón Machado Ventura, Ginarte Gato reaffirmed the commitment of Cuban jurists to the defense of the homeland, justice, and sovereignty.
He denounced the renewed escalation by the United States government, with coercive measures and an energy blockade that he described as genocide against the Cuban people, in violation of international law and the UN Charter.
Young Patricia Romero Madrigal, reading the organization's Declaration for its 49th anniversary, stated that the jurists reaffirm their commitment to the unwavering defense of the principles of sovereign equality of states, non-intervention in internal affairs, and the peaceful resolution of disputes.
The UNJC officially convened its 10th Congress, to be held in June 2027, under the central theme: Strengthening Institutions as a Guarantee of the Country's Economic and Social Transformation.

Yamila González Ferrer, Vice President of the UNJC, read a declaration from the International Association of Democratic Jurists, which recognizes the trajectory, steadfastness, and contribution of the Cuban jurists' organization to the defense of legality, sovereignty, and social justice.
The solidarity organization condemned the intensification of the U.S. blockade, including the energy blockade imposed by Executive Order, and reaffirmed its commitment to stand with the Cuban people and their jurists.
LEGAL EXCELLENCE IN SERVICE TO THE PEOPLE
Guantánamo. —When the U.S. government becomes more aggressive in its efforts to break our will, stifle our economy, and silence our voice, "Cuban jurists, with our laws and the Constitution as our shield, tell them they will not succeed."
This warning was issued from Guantánamo by the UNJC in a message released during the main activities commemorating the organization's 49th anniversary.
"In Cuba, the law does not bend, nor does justice negotiate its dignity," states another part of the document, read by Lisandra Premión Torres, one of the youngest and most prominent professionals in this sector.
The declaration also affirms that the current imperialist threats against our country are the face of the same blockade that, without the most basic sense of humanity, violates international laws, agreements, and treaties.
"We reaffirm to our people that the law is on their side, and to the empire, that there will be no retreats, no concessions to blackmail. Not one step back in the defense of our socialist, independent, and sovereign Cuba," the text reiterates.
On behalf of the youth, the proclamation, which also supports the declaration and the position of our government regarding imperialist threats, states that: "We inherit the tradition of decorum from those who, like Ignacio Agramonte, José Martí, and Fidel Castro, established a revolutionary law at the service of the people."
A comprehensive effort focused on the professional development of its jurists and the fight against crime, corruption, illegality, and social indiscipline earned the province of Guantánamo the honor of hosting the main activities for Jurist's Day.
For the ninth consecutive time, Guantánamo has emerged as the Most Outstanding Province in the work of the UNJC, a distinction this time shared with Villa Clara, Granma, Havana, Ciego de Ávila, Holguín, and Santiago de Cuba.

Lawyers and groups outstanding in the work of the organization, and winners of the national competition of the Scientific Societies of that branch, were recognized during the event, headed by Yoel Pérez García, First Secretary of the Party in Guantánamo, the Governor, Alis Azahares Torreblanca, and other authorities.
As a prelude to the celebration, dedicated to Fidel Castro on his centennial, the new Guantánamo headquarters of the Provincial People's Court was inaugurated.
Built at a cost of over 20 million pesos, the building improves working conditions for those who defend socialist legality and the sovereignty of our nation.
