


Cuba participates, with 150 students, in the individual classification round of the International Information Technology Olympiad in the field of information technologies, cybersecurity and artificial intelligence, in which 20 countries and 2,700 competitors are participating.
Omar Correa Madrigal, vice president of the Union of Cuban Informatics (UIC, in Spanish), told Granma that the first edition of this event is taking place as a result of the Cuban-Russian collaboration, with the extension to all Brics countries, and registrations are still open for those interested.
The also director of the Center for Interactive Technologies of the University of Informatics Sciences (UCI) added that one of the objectives is to develop talent in the nations interested in the areas for which it was convened, with a format in the modality of CTF competition or "capture the flag", widely used in cybersecurity tasks.
He highlighted the opportunity to promote talents in high school and pre-university ages -between 14 and 18 years old- and in the case of the Cuban delegation, students from all provinces, from Urban Pre-university Institutes and Exact Sciences, as well as from Computer Science Polytechnics are attending.
He pointed out the collaboration between the Ministries of Education and Communications and the UCI, as organizers of the Cuban part, in addition to collaborators such as the UCI, with the competitive programming movement.
Correa Madrigal detailed that the training bases are carried out in the UCI headquarters in all the provinces, in the polytechnics school where the conditions for it were created, and the national preselection of computing incorporated the Olympiad as part of its preparation in the camp at the University of Informatics Sciences.
The individual qualification round will take place until April 15, and from April 21 to 25 the team qualification rounds, both in virtual format, while from May 30 to June 3 the final competitions of the best teams will be held in Russia.
