United Nations.—  Cuba today advocated for the defense of regional sovereignty against threats such as coups d'état, interference and pressures aimed at overthrowing the social advances achieved by the popular struggle.Speaking before the ALBA-TCP Political Council, meeting at the United Nations headquarters, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez warned about the worsening of policies against the bloc's member states in the complex international context."Attempts are being made to impose political decisions that respond to the imperialist interests of one or several powers at the service of transnational corporations, and an attempt is being made against the sovereign will of our peoples," he said before representatives of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America-People's Trade Agreement (ALBA-TCP).The minister recalled recent provocations in that geographic area such as the coup attempts in Bolivia in 2019 and this year, as well as the denunciations of Honduras and Colombia or the incitement against the Venezuelan Armed Forces."None of our nations is free from plans of social destabilization and attempts to overthrow our governments," he said.In this sense, the head of state ratified his country's support to Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and to the civic-military union by recognizing that it is only up to Venezuelans to settle their own affairs.Rodríguez also denounced the coercive measures and fierce campaigns from the United States against Nicaragua and his own nation, which suffers "the most brutal, prolonged and intense aggression against its economy and its people".The representative extended his solidarity with the Caribbean countries in the recovery after Hurricane Beryl."The Caribbean community has in Cuba a sister who will accompany them in demanding fair and differentiated treatment in their legitimate claim for reparations and compensation for the horrors of slavery and colonialism," he insisted. He also called for world solidarity for Palestine as well as a just and lasting solution based on the creation of two states and its inclusion as a full member of the United Nations. He also reiterated the invitation of the Cuban President, Miguel Díaz-Canel, to celebrate in Havana on December 14 the twentieth anniversary "of our emancipating and unitary Alliance".
