“For us it is a source of great satisfaction to welcome you in our country”, said yesterday the President of the Republic of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, to Honorable Le Tan Can, Deputy Minister of Finance of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, upon receiving him at the Palace of the Revolution.
The Head of State took the opportunity to send “affectionate greetings” to the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Honorable To Lam, and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, to whom he extended invitations to visit the country.
He expressed that 2025 “is a year of enormous political significance for Vietnam, for the Vietnamese people, for its Government and for its Party.” The First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba commented that in February we commemorate the 95th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of Vietnam; at the end of this month we will commemorate the 50th anniversary of the victory of Saigon, and in September the 80th anniversary of the proclamation of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
He stressed that it is also the 65th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral relations between Cuba and Vietnam, and the 42nd session of the Intergovernmental Commission for Economic, Scientific and Technical Collaboration between the two countries will be held.
He highlighted the visit of the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, comrade To Lam, in September 2024, which marked a milestone in the relations, founded by Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz and comrade Ho Chi Minh, “and which have had continuity through the relations maintained between all Vietnamese leaders and Army General Raul Castro Ruz”.
He referred to the rice planting project in the municipality of Los Palacios, in Pinar del Rio, whose results allow expanding it with other Vietnamese companies to a greater number of areas.
He thanked Vietnam for defending Cuba's struggle against the blockade of the U.S. Government, and pondered that such support is received at a time when there is a difficult situation in our country, due to the tightening of the blockade. “These gestures of yours demonstrate the historic brotherhood between our peoples, governments and Parties”.
Le Tan Can assured that the exchange had been very important, not only for him, but also for the special relationship that exists between the Parties, peoples and States of both nations.
The meeting was attended by the Minister of Foreign Trade and Investment (Mincex), Oscar Pérez-Oliva Fraga; the Minister of Construction, René Mesa Villafaña, and the Vice Minister of Mincex, Deborah Rivas Saavedra; among other leaders of the Government and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
