The Committees for the Defense of the Revolution (CDR) were created as a vanguard organization to defend the revolutionary conquests on September 28, 1960, by Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz.As the date to celebrate the 64th anniversary of the founding of the CDRs approaches, and with the presence of the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Party and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, a ceremony of decorations was held yesterday to recognize a representation of CDR members, zones and groups that have marked an important work in the integration with the organization."Only fair ideas survive, defended with courage, dignity and firmness," expressed Fidel. Under this precept were recognized with the September 28 Flag, the highest distinction awarded by the CDR, seven zones, representing all those who have achieved this merit in the country. In addition, the medal for the Defense of the Homeland and the Unity of the Neighborhood was awarded to 165 CDR grassroots leaders who stand out in the fulfillment of multiple tasks, as well as the September 28 Distinction to 215 very outstanding people for their actions and exemplarity.Also present were members of the Political Bureau of the Party, Esteban Lazo Hernández, president of the National Assembly of People's Power and of the Council of State, and Roberto Morales Ojeda, secretary of Organization of the Central Committee, as well as the Hero of the Republic Gerardo Hernández Nordelo, national coordinator of the CDRs.
