In view of the current energy contingency that the Island is going through, caused by the effects on fuel supply and the obstacles in the acquisition of technologies and supplies necessary for the modernization and operation of the power generation plants, it was informed that Mexico will offer technical support and will analyze if it is also necessary to provide fuel.Claudia Sheinbaum, president of that brother country, ratified, in her usual press conference, her nation's stance against the blockade; and said that Mexico's Federal Electricity Commission is in contact, through the Foreign Ministry, for whatever the Cuban people may require.According to the Cubadebate press media, when the President responded to the question about the possibility of sending fuel, she stated that: "Cuba was helped at one time, and we are seeing if fuel aid is also necessary as humanitarian aid, and it is to the Cuban people, obviously, and to the country."At the same time, after the recovery efforts for the damages caused by the passage of hurricane Oscar in the province of Guantánamo, the United Nations resident coordinator in Cuba, Francisco Pichón, assured that the international organization will support the efforts carried out "in the severely affected territories of Cuba."According to the official, his office will seek the best way to reach the localities of Baracoa, Maisí, Imías and San Antonio del Sur, in coordination with the Cuban authorities and the Civil Defense. He also pointed out that they will continue implementing 48 existing bilateral projects, under the current cooperation framework, with the purpose of accompanying development efforts to maintain the social indicators achieved by Cuba, despite the current economic situation.Pichón acknowledged that there is a permanent dialogue with Cuban authorities to know the priorities and support the most vulnerable sectors, as well as public policies in harmony with the principles of the United Nations 2030 Agenda. He affirmed that the blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba, and its inclusion in the unilateral list of countries that sponsor terrorism, limits the work of the UN, which in turn considerably affects the island's efforts; however, he pointed out that "we are working under these challenges, which obliges us to generate innovative capacities."
