In commercial jargon, a branch is an entity that is part of a parent company, but physically separate from the main headquarters.Only with some differences, in the political vocabulary, a branch can be called a place that serves as a base of operations in the interests of other governments, whether to destabilize third parties, give shelter to self-exiles involved in plans against their peoples, or nest the new merchants of interference and terrorism. Thus, today it is not difficult to understand how in some European countries there are powerful sectors committed to establishing real branches of that sort of head office of the counterrevolution headquartered in Miami. There are many wealthy members of the local right and ultra-right who in Europe set themselves up as protectors of oligarchs, false artists, corrupt ex-officials and others, to which now joins, in Spain, the defeated presidential candidate in the Venezuelan elections, Edmundo Gonzalez. This is not an original move by González, who left his country by means of a safe-conduct from the Bolivarian Government, and in spite of the accusations against him for the political irresponsibility of his allegations and those of his mentor, María Corina Machado, which led to the violent acts after the general elections. Countless politicians and businessmen have landed in the Old Continent who, after stealing and conspiring in Venezuela, are articulated abroad to overthrow the Revolution in power by any means. But as if this shelter were not enough of an affront, an astonishing and outrageous event was recently consummated: the recognition of candidate González as president of Venezuela, in blatant interference with what was decided by the majority vote of Venezuelans, who reelected Nicolás Maduro as head of the country.Cuba has been well aware for many years of the spearheads wielded against the peoples from those subversive branches.Against Cuba, for example, torturers, terrorists and even those who proclaimed themselves "presidents" of this island that they long to see as one more star on the U.S. flag settled with impunity in Florida.Be it in their own country or in territories willing to protect them, the U.S. governments have always bet on the use and recycling of paid characters, ready to play the destabilizing political game promoted by the power of the North.Who in Cuba does not remember Más Canosa, Posada Carriles and so many others, fed by the money of the different U.S. administrations, dangerous and deluded managers of the idea that the Revolution would not resist the onslaught of the CIA, USAID, the State Department or the coercive measures of the economic blockade, which today is being intensified. With millionaire funds for them to speak and act, the so-called Cuban and Venezuelan "opponents" form an army of mercenaries and propagandists who never cease to call for violence and ask for U.S. intervention. In the case at hand, the warning would be valid, paraphrasing the European patriot, journalist and fighter against fascism, the Czechoslovakian Julius Fucik, when he cried out: "Men, I have loved you, be alert". I would say then: "Europe, be alert", to those who want to turn it into a branch of that mother house of hatred, interference and terrorist plans that is Miami, when the tightrope on which the world is walking demands that the opposite prevail: love, solidarity and respect.
