The question came almost at the end of the interview, and it made the headline: What do you think has been the greatest legacy of Andrés Manuel López Obrador?"Love for the people. Definitely, for the good of all, first the poor, with the people everything, without the people nothing. I can reduce it to something that sounds very simple but it is very deep: love for the people."This is Carolina Rangel, recently elected secretary general of the National Regeneration Movement Party (Morena), who met this Monday in Mexico City with the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez. She is a 35 year old young woman, who in her account on the social network X declares herself "morelian, obradorist, feminist, vegetarian, economist, four transformer."At the end of the meeting, at the residence of the Cuban Ambassador to this nation, Carolina spoke with the press team accompanying the Cuban leader on his fifth visit to Mexico, since he assumed the presidency in 2018."The people of Cuba and the people of Mexico have always been brothers, historically. This new process that we call the second floor of the Fourth Transformation, will also be to continue walking together, to continue twinning."President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, he said, has always been a clear example of dignity, affection and support. He is very fond of the Cuban people, and very grateful, he said, because they have always been with us in the most difficult times. In one of the most complex times in the world and in our country, during the pandemic, we always counted on the Cuban authorities and the Cuban people. Also when we dealt with such an urgent issue as health, not only during the pandemic, because it was a great debt left by the neoliberal governments. It was in the Cuban people that we found this great support, he said.Regarding the new leadership of Morena, he pointed out that "it is headed by Luisa María Alcalde, an extraordinary woman, a young woman of the left and of struggle, with results in different stages of the Fourth Transformation".He spoke of the "great national executive committee, which is made up mostly by young people, but with results, who come from obradorism, from the Fourth Transformation principles".-How much does so many women assuming high responsibilities change in the life of Mexico?-It is an enormous responsibility, because in different historical moments we have said that the women and youth that we are and that we have raised our hands, we can do it, and do it well."Yes, we are youth, but at the same time we have been in this historical process of accompanying amlo in good times and bad. It is a great challenge to make politics with the public absence of López Obrador, but with his legacy. These Morena youth also have the high honor of accompanying the first female President in Mexico."When we talk about what kind of women's time we want, we want it to reach the public and private spheres. That in each of the spaces, in each of the homes in Mexico, the theme that this is the time of women arrives.""It is a historic change for the country, which is reflected in her Presidency, but also in the Presidency of the most important Party today. It is not only because they are women, but because they are women of the left, of struggle, prepared. It is a high honor, but also a high responsibility.""We can no longer go backwards, women and youth will no longer take any step backwards. It is to continue to conquer rights and seek full rights for all the people, especially for the historically vulnerable sectors."
