The First International Seminar on Parliamentary Diplomacy was held in Cuba

Issues of relevance for the international community such as the defense of human rights, peaceful solutions and the preservation of world peace were presented yesterday, from an academic point of view of parliaments, at the First International Seminar on Parliamentary Diplomacy.The event, which will be held until today, took place at the National Capitol of Cuba, institutional headquarters of the National Assembly of People's Power (ANPP), with the representation of around twenty nations.In his opening remarks, Rogelio Sierra Díaz, Rector of the Higher Institute of International Relations, said that the event was a crucial space to analyze, in a high spirit of collaboration, "the challenges and opportunities currently faced with the aim of strengthening international law."The special lecture, given by the president of the Permanent Commission of International Relations of the ANPP and president of the Latin American and Caribbean Parliament Rolando González Patricio, focused on the myths and opportunities of parliamentary diplomacy.Dialogue and understanding, legislative harmonization, integration, mobilization in the fight against and mitigation of climate change, defense of democracy, defense of international law, defense of peace, said González Patricio, "accumulate reasons, more than enough, to attend and exercise, carefully and conscientiously what today we call parliamentary diplomacy on the road to a much better world."The event was presided over by the member of the Political Bureau and president of the ANPP, Esteban Lazo Hernández; the first deputy minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, Gerardo Peñalver Portal, and the president of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples, Fernando González Llort.
