The anti-pneumococcal vaccination campaign with the immunogen Pneumosil 10 valente started yesterday, throughout the country, for children born in 2024 until June, and for those born in July who will reach the age of two months. At the launching ceremony of this campaign, held at the Lawton Polyclinic -the first one inaugurated by the Commander-in-Chief and from which the Family Doctor and Nurse Program was deployed-, Dr. Francisco Durán García, National Director of Epidemiology of the Ministry of Public Health, said that Pneumosil protects against the ten most circulating serotypes, which cause invasive pneumococcal disease. He commented that this is the first time that an immunizer of this type is introduced in the national vaccination scheme, which, with this last entry, totals 17 vaccines, and 12 of them are of national production. The acquisition of this vaccine to immunize close to 27,500 infants was possible thanks to the support of the Global Vaccine Alliance and the Pan American Health Organization.Durán García explained that the vaccination scheme consists of the application of a first dose, a second dose after two months, and a third booster dose seven months later.Regarding adverse reactions, in a recent speech, Lena López Ambrón, director of the National Immunization Program of Minsap, explained that there may be muscular discomfort, redness or inflammation of the site where the injection was administered, a low-grade fever or fever, and there is a very low risk of allergic reactions. She also pointed out that there are no contraindications with other immunizers of the program, such as pentavalent and bivalent oral polio vaccine.
