Raúl and Díaz-Canel attended the burial ceremony of the remains of the Hero of the Republic of Cuba, Major General Romárico Vidal Sotomayor García

The leader of the Cuban Revolution, Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, and the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Party and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, attended on Wednesday the ceremony of military honors and burial of the remains of the Hero of the Republic of Cuba, Reserve Major General Romárico Vidal Sotomayor García, who died in the early hours of September 1st.It was the posthumous tribute to a man of unconditional loyalty to our people, to the Homeland, to the Revolution, to his Commander-in-Chief, and who, as Brigadier General Jesús Manuel Burón Tabit, Deputy Minister of the Interior, considered in his farewell words of mourning, was also a "boss and brother."He also recalled the "energy, dedication and firmness" that distinguished "every word and action" throughout his life, which "leave him forever in our hearts as the young guerrilla of the troops of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz in the Sierra Maestra, who at just 18 years of age rose from loyalty, sacrifice and combat inside and outside the country, to the dimension of Hero of the Republic of Cuba, backed by decades of intense struggle with his people and his Socialist Revolution."In making a brief overview of the extensive work of the valuable combatant, he also mentioned his service in the three armies and in the Military Region of the Isle of Youth; the fulfillment on two occasions of military mission in Angola, with direct and outstanding participation in decisive combat actions, and his subsequent performance in the Ministry of the Interior, whose he was a member for more than two decades.Evoking the tight synthesis with which the Army General once defined him, he underlined his confidence in the decisions of his superiors and his absolute determination to fulfill them; his passion and dedication in every task entrusted to him, be it big or small; his support for his subordinates and his constant concern for them, as well as his organization, rigor and strict discipline in the face of every task."Generations of Cuban revolutionaries grew up next to him or under his teaching as a simple, modest, disciplined, respectful and humble man. He was a leader who always preached by personal example and optimism," acknowledged the Deputy Minister of the Interior.At the entrance of the Pantheon of the Revolutionary Armed Forces, in the Colon necropolis, was the solemn tribute, which was attended by several members of the Political Bureau, among them, Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz, and the Minister of the Interior, Major General Lazaro Alvarez Casas. Also there, relatives of the distinguished revolutionary and high officials of the Ministries of the Revolutionary Armed Forces and of the Interior.The tribute was solemn and intimate, gun salutes, gratitude, silence...To conclude, Raúl and Diaz-Canel were the first to lay white roses near the niche that protects the remains of such a distinguished Cuban. Afterwards, the rest of the attendants to the ceremony did it, in which six floral offerings were distinguished: from the Army General, the President of the Republic, the Revolutionary Armed Forces, the Ministry of the Interior, the Association of Combatants of the Cuban Revolution and the family.
